Do I Look Like
Public Enemy Number One
This story had a
really interesting name. When I heard the name, I sudden wanted to
know what the story would be about. Then I chose it as my next
reading assignment, This story was really deep, it hid a lot of
meaning and feeling of the author, Lorraine Ali. The most interesting
in the story were how American and Arabic make the stereotype and
discriminate again each other without trying to understand and know
each other. How funny when we talk about Arab, most people's mind
will pop up the picture of bomb-lobbing religious fanatic or the
violent religious people who love to burn other religion's temple. I
mean, many stories were true, but many of them were made up stories
also. This story showed that people loved to think everything base on
themselves and believed without logic. The first question that came
in my mind was “should Lorraine Ali deserve this kind of bad
life?.” Then the next question was about how many innocent Arab or
American kids had a bad life from adults' bad attitude. The good
example was when Lorraine's sister was a kid, and her friend asked
her that was their dad a bad people. This was so oblivious that the
old generation planted their bad attitude as hate and fear in their
children's head. In my opinion about this story, we can learn a lot
from it, and we should look into ourself first who we are, to see
that we are the same kind of people in the story or not.
